This medium has been mined from ancient fossilized phytoplankton algae quarries and is used in farm feed and the food industry for generations. When taken by mouth, diatomaceous earth is used as a source of silica, for treating high cholesterol levels as well for treating constipation. It improves the health of skin, nails, teeth, bones, and hair as well. When applied to the skin or teeth, diatomaceous earth is used to brush teeth or remove unwanted dead skin cells. Given to livestock in their feed it assists with the elimination of numerous species of intestinal worms and parasites. Diatomaceous earth is also synonymous with the elimination of ants, cockroaches and many other chitin encased insects. The tiny fossil shards damage the chitin resulting in the demise of these insects.
